Blackthorn Scottish Gourmet Sea Salt Flakes - Natural and Unrefined, 4.25oz Box (Pack of 1)

Was really excited to receive this because I'm a chef. Was really disappointed to see that because yhe salt wasn't in a protective casing, like plastic, when I opened the box, it disintegrated because the box was too moist. When I opened it, salt spilt all over my floor so I had to throw some away and was only able to keep just under half of the salt. I since then, put the salt in a plastic bag and trying to dry out the box, and save what I can of it.I really hope the manufacturer reads this. And adjusts to put the salt in a protective case like other salts from around the world like France, Ibiza, Italy and Hawaii that all are in a protective casings. I would buy again, but only if this change is made, and verified.PS, the salt does have an amazing profile.

I’m hooked on this SALT. I never thought I would order gourmet salt. But I’m glad I did. A little goes a long way because the crystals are so big. It has a sea/earth taste. It’s my very own Scottish treasure.

I don’t write reviews because I think is a waste of my time, but here I am. F***, this s*** is good! Used it on steak, next will be when I smoke my next brisket.

The salt is fine, but I could not tell any difference between Maldon salt, which is very good and cheaper. Also, the packaging is bad. It's just salt on a little cardboard box. No bag so the cardboard was wet from the salt moisture. I'll stick to Maldon for fancy finishing salt.

Moisture inside the unopened package. Salt was discolored and cardboard integrity mushy and crushed. No way to return or exchange it. Extremely disappointed. I have ordered this many times before with no issue. Maybe a larger size will be packaged better.

I collect salts from all over the world.This is the best salt. There are a few top tier salts for my taste, but even among those four or so, Blackthorn is in a category all its own. First place, the rest are not even close.I can’t even imagine eating meat without Blackthorn salt, because the taste is so much better.A family member used it making potato salad — and this salt changed the taste, it was so good!

It's easy to measure a pinch of salt with these flakes, and the flavour and unique natural production process make it an instant favourite. It's like putting a bit of the western Scottish coast into your food, which does wonders for it.

I saw a segment about this company and its process on Escape to the Country. It was fascinating seeing the rainwater dripping through the thorns. I decided I had to give it a try but worried it might not be available in the US. Imagine my surprise to see it on Amazon. It is so unique and flavorful. It is not a substitute for fine grain table salt. These are little crunchy flakes that serve as a finishing salt/topper. I love it!

This was a featured product on a TV show about Scottish homes. It showed in detail how it was made, etc. Intrigued, I decided to look it up and was happy to see it could be purchased on Amazon!This salt is so CLEAN. The taste is the best. I seriously cannot imagine using my old salt(s) again. I probably use a third of what was used with other salts so the price is justified.

This salt is beautiful! The packaging is very unique and the salt crystals themselves are a lovely flake form. The only negative is the price. Although - if you are familiar with their unique, environment friendly sea-salt extraction process (ever so slightly modified from antiquity) and consider shipping cost to the United States the high price is more than justified. As a unique present I would definitely buy again.

This salt has great flavor and naturally contains minerals. Though, I’m not a person to spend money on fancy salts, I had to buy this salt after seeing the company highlighted on an episode of Escape To The Country. I was intrigued by the salt brine concentration method. By cascading sea water over a tower of black thorn branches to evaporate the water, they use a very environmentally-friendly method while also using far less land. There were no huge evaporation ponds other companies need to make sea salt. I wanted to show my support for this innovative company from here in the US and I am very happy with my purchase.

I saw a feature about this and the company who makes it, and HOW it's made, on Escape to the Country and fell in love with the whole concept. I was thrilled to find it here on amazon.It's large flakes that are easy to crush between the fingers to make it a smaller grain as needed, and the taste is gorgeous. Personally, I swear I can discern the essence of the hawthorn branches it's distilled through, and as hawthorn is very sacred to my path, how could I resist??It comes just in the thin paper box, so I bought a lovely glass jar in which to keep this on the counter. It deserves no less.I have a cheaper sea salt for things like pasta water or other household uses, but this is all I use now for cooking or seasoning.
